Over the past couple of years it has come to my attention that my children like all the outlandish Christmas songs. This is not to say that we don’t love many traditional ones as well, but some of their favorites are not so traditional.

Ava took a liking to I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas last year. Chloe has things like Dominic the Donkey and The 12 Pains of Christmas right up there on her list of favorites.

It is specifically The 12 Days of Christmas variations that is causing me to write this. The original 12 Days of Christmas is somewhat of a classic. There are many artists, skits, books, and now variations of this song. Today in the car Chloe was reading from Chicken Soup for the Soul – Christmas Treasury for Kids. It is broken down by the days in December. She read the one from December 13th out loud:

The Twelve (Silly) Days of Christmas

This has spurred us to write our own Twelve Days of Christmas variation. Although we are hoping to be a little more meaningful and a little less angry or silly, but you never know what we will turn out (especially if we let Joey help)!
