To avoid frequent pediatric dentistry visits, it is a good idea to get your child into brushing their teeth as early as possible. Although this may sound like an easy task, it can prove to much easier said than done! There are five simple and fun ways to help make teeth brushing fun that will hopefully get your children interested in keeping their teeth healthy and clean.
Let Your Child Pick Out Their Toothbrush and Yummy Tooth Paste
One great way to get your child interested in brushing their teeth is by allowing them to pick out a toothbrush that they want. There are many different types of children’s toothbrushes available. For example, there are toothbrush that have your child’s favorite cartoon character on them, such as Hello Kitty or Spider Man. There are even toothbrushes that play some of your child’s favorite songs (these types of toothbrushes can help you ensure that you ensure that your child brushes their teeth for the recommended two minutes).
Along with letting your child pick out their own toothbrush, you should also consider letting your children choose their own tooth paste. There are many different types of tooth paste available for children. Kids can choose a type of tooth paste with fruity flavors or even bubble gum flavored tooth paste. Tooth pastes made specifically for younger children do not have that same ‘burning’ feeling that other toothpastes made for older children have. This will not only make your child’s brushing experience taste better, but it will also be more enjoyable and fun for them
as well.
Brush Together
Another way that you can making brushing their teeth fun for you and your child is by brushing your teeth with them. Set aside specific times in the morning and evening for you to brush your teeth with your child. This can improve your child’s brushing habits because you are able to watch them brush their teeth while you are brushing your own.
Bring a Buddy
Another great way to encourage your child to have good brushing habits is by bringing a little buddy along with them when they brush their teeth. This can be a stuffed animal or even a special toy that is specifically for the times when children brush their teeth.
Make a Poster
A sticker poster would also be an excellent way to encourage good brushing habits. Simply hang a bright piece of construction paper on the bathroom wall and allow children to add a sticker to the paper every time they’ve successfully brushed their teeth. Then so many stickers may earn a fun prize like a new toothbrush or toothpaste of their choice or even a fun little toy!
