Fiction Books for the Young Horse Lover
It is no secret that I have a horse lover in my house. She has been obsessed from a young age, devouring any books, photos and information that she can on horses, wearing any horse clothing she can get her hands on, and riding at the barn as many days a week as possible. For this reason I am sharing a list of Fiction Books for the Young Horse Lover. She has spent many hours reading these and learning things along the way too!
Fiction Books for the Young Horse Lover
- Pony Pals – A much loved early chapter book series for ages 7-10 that follows a group of girls and their ponies.
- Horse Diaries – I love that these horse books take our kids to many different places and times. They seamlessly blend together horses and history.
- The Saddle Club – The Saddle Club is a widely popular series for girls in 4th to 6th grade. You will join Carole, Stevie, and Lisa on many journeys and trials of friendship and riding together.
- Breyer Stablemates – This is an easy reader series for our youngest of horse lovers in the age ranges of 4-8.
- Misty of Chincoteague – This classic story tells the tale of Phantom, the wildest mare on Assateague Island. (Which is a real island, with truly wild horses.)
- Magic Ponies – This series involving magic ponies is sure to delight any young horse loving reader.
- Horses of the Dawn – This is a middle grade animal fantasy trilogy involving horses.
- Horses and Friends – This is a great series for girls ages 9-12. With good friends and a positive message.
- Canterwood Crest Stable Stories – This series is for older girls ages 9-13 and deals with interpersonal girl relationships on a more mature level.
- Pony Mysteries – These are for our younger horse loving readers. Recommended for ages 6-9. Jane Betancourt is also the author of the very popular Pony Pals series mentioned in this list.
While this one isn’t fiction, I wanted to include it here for all our young horse lovers. What I love about this horse coloring book is that it depicts many types of horses, in many types of settings, and time periods. It is a fun way for kids to see all the things horses can do and have been used for.

A great selection of books for young horse lovers, thank you =) My baby is crazy about horses. I think that soon we’ll not be able to do with books and toys alone and we will have to buy a real pony!
