Elementary Homeschool Science Curriculum – Real Science-4-Kids

Science is one of those subjects of which I seem to flutter from curriculum to unit studies using various programs and resources. I usually start out with the best of intentions, but then I tire of having to print multiple pages, click here, there and everywhere for resources, and having to do and gather so much in order to do the “fun” experiments.

As you might guess, I have been struggling to find an elementary homeschool science curriculum that is well rounded, simple to implement, and at least somewhat independent for my daughter.

I can’t tell you how excited I was to find this elementary homeschool science curriculum! Real Science-4-Kids offers some benefits I have yet to find all together in one place!

Most Loved Features of Real Science-4-Kids

No extra printing – Everything you need is contained in the 3 books of each grade level set. {Teacher’s Manual, Student Textbook, Laboratory Notebook}

Tackles difficult subjects early – Exploring the Building Blocks of Science starts with Kindergarten and as of this year (August 2016) has just come out with 7th grade for the 2016-2017 school year. Each level tackles subjects like chemistry, biology and physics, but at an appropriate level for the age.

Builds up each year – This goes along with the difficult subjects early. Instead of doing biology one year, chemistry another, and so on, RS4K covers each one every year, building on the previous knowledge base and age capabilities.

Colorful & easy to read student textbook – The student textbook is colorful, has age appropriate diagrams and keeps things clear and concise. It isn’t cluttered with side notes, instead it keeps to the meat of the text in an engaging way.

Comprehensive lab notebook – The lab notebook is the only writing source your student will need. It isn’t bogged down with rote memorization or reiteration of terms. Instead it is an in-depth, more hands-on, interactive (notebooky almost) style. This allows kids to feel engaged with the material while exploring the hands-on lab activities.

Using Real Science-4-Kids Elementary Homeschool Science Curriculum

There are 22 chapters and 22 science experiments in the Exploring the Building Blocks of Science Book 5. This allows you to easily spread the curriculum out over 36-40 week school year, with time to take breaks, spend more time on sticky points, or even go more in-depth on the points of interest for your child.

Since I have an independent learner I have her read the student text on her own. This allows her the freedom to read it where and when she wants to.

We usually plan lab time for the end of the week. Either Thursday or Friday we set aside time to go over the chapter together, and work through the lab activities.
