365 Project ~ Days 11-14
Day 11: Tuesday, January 11th
This photo is one of a series I took while at the RMSC on Monday. It was taken after I had posted my Monday photo and I really wanted this one included in my 365Project so here it is on Tuesday instead! The special traveling exhibit CSI has finished it’s run and now they are taking it down. The exhibit brought up a few discussions amidst the homeschooling groups and e-mail loops that I am a part of, mostly in relation to it’s graphic content and appropriateness for what ages. I know more than one person had contacted the museum in regards to this, and somewhere in the print on the exhibits website there was a recommended age of I believe 12. Needless to say, my 4 year old does not come close to being age appropriate for such violent content. Why then is there a piece of it out in plain view now?
What you see in the photo is a mangled car, minus it’s back seat and farther, no windows or wheels, with grass in the wheel well, blood on the door, and a seemingly real man in the driver’s seat. Then you see my four year old, just sitting. She sat in this manner for 15 minutes. I had to field a plethora of questions like: Where is the rest of the car? Why are the wheels gone? How did they get them off? What tool left that red stuff on the door? Why is there grass where the wheel should be? How did the man get there? This was after trying to explain to her that the man in the car was not real.
My very vibrant, active, quirky 4 year old was reduced to a meek, mild, perplexed little lump on the dirty floor in the museum, inching as close as she could to the line that she could not cross trying to get a better look. When I kept trying to steer her away, she looked up at me and said, “I am just going to sit here and look at that man in the car”.
This is my photographic moment of silence….
Day 12: Wednesday, January 12th
Here lies the remains of Chloe’s snow globes. They were tragically taken in a shelving accident. Chloe learned the hard way that a book shelf was not meant to hold 80lbs of human weight, and lost some of her prized possessions in the process. 🙂
Day 13: Thursday, January 13th
Yes, yes, these are mine. Since May of 2010 braces have been the bane of my existence. For 7 weeks now I have had to wear these tiny rubber bands in a triangle pattern on each side of my mouth to adjust my bite. My hope is that at my next appointment, (Valentine’s Day) I will get the good news that I can be done with these, and have an end in sight!
Day 14: Friday January 14th
Math. The bane of Chloe’s existence, always. Here she was having trouble visualizing the drawing of blocks in which you can’t physically see all of them. So off to the box of wooden blocks we went to make a 3D version of the cubes from her paper. It made it so much easier to visualize and count how many blocks were there!

I am reminded of an old saying, “one picture is worth a thousand words”. The picture of Ava sitting gazing at the car and the one with Chloe’s snow globes says it all.
