I’d LOVE to bring the kids back to DC now that they’re older and know more American History. Such a great place! We stayed in College Park. Our hotel had a FILLING breakfast included and they always told us to grab extras to bring to our room – packaged breakfast bars, fruit, milk, water. We’d each grab some for lunch and snacks through the day and only eat dinner out. It’s so awesome that most things are free!

Love the tips. I grew up there and I think you real nailed how to save money. Good for you.
    Blessings, Dawn

Thank you Dawn. It was a short trip but I tried to keep my eyes and ears open for things we could do, and ways we could save for future trips. There really is so much you can learn and see in D.C. without an exorbitant amount of money spent.

I can’t locate the hotel you were referencing. The site said that it doesn’t have a location in Alexandria. Maybe they changed affiliations.

Rebecca, I just had someone else tell me the same thing. From what I can tell I think they closed the Alexandria location. 🙁

Can you take lunchboxes into the Smithsonian museums?

You can bring food in, you just can’t eat in the museum. However it does vary by museum. For instance you can’t take anything into the Air and Space other than bottled water. You can check each of their websites for their policy on food and drink.
