Hip Homeschool Hop ~ 9-14-10 ~ Planets
This is something new that I stumbled upon in my time spent blog jumping recently. It is one of the things that has inspired me to work on changing the theme of blog, and adding more homeschool content to my blog. I was thinking I could use this post each week to log something we are doing in “The Ciravola School of Excellence”.
Maybe now would be a good time to start with the name! We are the Ciravola family. This is our 5th year homeschooling. When we first started my brother used to make comments about how “The Ciravola School of Excellence” should accept more students because he wanted to send his kids there! It became the running joke, and the name that has stuck for us. Whenever I have to fill out a form or state our school name, that is what I use.
So now that we have that out of the way, I want to share what the big excitement has been in our homeschool this week: The Solar System. When Chloe was first homeschooling we found an inflatable solar system and asked my mother to purchase it as a gift for her. We clearly did not read the specs very carefully because when we opened it and blew up the sun, we were stunned to find it was 36″ in diameter! We thought we would just hang it around her ceiling fan, but realized it was going to span the entire living room ceiling! As you can see from the picture below it is bigger than a standard size poster board!
This year the kids, from Chloe down to Ava, were very excited to hang the solar system up in our homeschool room.
We use the acronym:
My – Mercury
Very – Venus
Excellent – Earth
Mother – Mars
Just – Jupiter
Sent – Saturn
Us – Uranus
Nickles – Neptune
It used to be Nine Pizzas at the end but since Pluto has been demoted from it’s planet status, we changed it to Nickles. Ava now has Pluto ( the non-planet) hanging in her room. She calls it her own planet!

Love the pictures as they bring back the wonderful memories when you first displayed them for Chloe. I remember just how excited Jayden was about them too. They both were really in to learning all about our Solar System. Ava must feel really special having her own special planet Pluto. Keep up the excellent work daughter. Can’t wait t hear all three f their responses this time around.
