Weekly Wrap-Up ~ Fire Safety & A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Sunday: To close out Fire Prevention Week our local fire hall had their annual open house. Given that our state requires us to cover fire prevention and safety each year this is a good way for us to review these topics each year. The kids love this time of year, one for the firehouse visit, and two because we usually practice our escape plan which means they get to climb out their windows and on to the roof! This year we watched some firemen demonstrate the extrication process. It was amazing to see how easily they were able to cut through the layers of metal and remove all 4 doors and the roof from the vehicle.
Tuesday: We received a list of vocabulary words for Chloe’s next Middle School Life Science Lab so we spent some time going over the list of terms. Our hope is that in 3 weeks when it is time for the lab that she will be a little bit familiar with the topic and terms. Ava started learning to add all on her own today. In my Little Things Thursday post this week I tell the story of how she began this journey all on her own.
Wednesday: Today brought our usual routine of storytime with Mr. Mike and lunch at the mall with Poppy and Gommy. This week Mr. Mike read a story from Max and Ruby’s Bedtime Book. This was not one of our favorite stories. It was about a pretend cafe that Ruby was making, while Max wanted to help. It just did not hold the interest of most of the children this week. They were excited to see Max and Ruby on the cover of the book, but their interest quickly waned as the story went on. There was more than one story in the book so the others could possibly have been better.
Thursday: I was sent the following homeschool related comic through one of my local homeschool groups’ e-mail loops. I thought I would share it with all of you here:
Friday: A Midsummer Night’s Dream is where we are starting in our Shakespearian Studies. To begin with we watched the following animated version of this tale on YouTube. This is the first of 3 parts for a total of about 30 minutes of viewing time. Then we read the story from Beautiful Stories from Shakespeare for Children.
