Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ October 19th, 2010
FOR TODAY:
October 19th, 2010…
Outside my window… who knows? It is getting dark earlier and earlier these days! I am beginning to write this post on Monday night and night comes so much earlier here in the fall. There was no rain today and I am hoping for the same tomorrow so that we can pick some more apples from our tree in the backyard.
I am thinking…about how pleased I am with Jayden’s piano progress. He had his 3rd lesson yesterday with Mike and I was so proud of how pleased Mike was with Jayden. Even though Jayden has very small hands he seems to find a way to manage the large stretches. I guess we can chalk up one good thing to his love of video games, his hand coordination is fantastic!
I am thankful for…the multitude of things we have that we easily take for granted on a daily basis…a home with heat and air, not one but 2 running vehicles, and a job that pays our bills.
From the learning rooms…we are home today with a busy “work” schedule. This week we are spending multiple mornings out of the house for things other than school, like hair cuts and nail appointments so we have to use our time at home wisely.
I am creating…multiple things in slow fashion! I am working on a brown and pink knitted hat to match Chloe’s winter coat. I am also working on the 8 x 8 squares for her blanket. I am sure I will be saying the blanket for at least a year before it is finished, but at least it is slowly progressing!
I am going…to try and get organized so that I can work on finishing the children’s baby books (mostly Ava’s) as well as their photo albums I had started. I think I have 3 years of soccer photos to add to Jayden’s as well as our family photos. By the end of January (long goal, I know) my plan is to have it all sorted, organized and up to date.
I am reading… a big little life – A Memoir of a Joyful Dog by Dean Koontz. I saw a quote from it on a blog I was recently reading and I was intrigued. So far an easy read, but I am only a chapter in.
I am hoping…to find some more time to practice the things I have learned in my Photoshop Class. It seems as though the week flies by, the next class comes, and I have done no practicing in between!
I am hearing…so much noise as we are at the height of our day. All the kids seem to talk to themselves, sing, make crazy noises, or all of the above. Not sure why they always have to be creating noise. I hear Jayden sliding around on the bench behind me, Chloe is whistling, and Ava is actually quiet for this one second!
Around the house…it is busy and noisy.
Quote for the week…If we allow ourselves to be enchanted by the beauty of the ordinary, we begin to see that all things are extraordinary.
A few plans for the rest of the week: Photoshop class, haircuts for Chloe and I, Storytime with Mr. Mike, Nail appointment, swimming lessons, taxi service, hopefully a quiet weekend.
Here is the picture for thought I am sharing…

I realized I never complimented Jayden on his piano the other night…I was thinking that it made such nice background music and how pleasant it was to hear but never actually SAID anything…you should be proud!! Kudos on your long range goal of getting the kids’ books up to date! I hope to add that to my 101 in 1001 (but I’ll have to actually FINISH that list, first!!!) – ugh! Can’t wait to see you guys again tomorrow…even though you may have been hoping for a longer “Smith-free” stretch! 🙂

I enjoyed reading about your day and your plans…I haven’t read anything by Koontz in a long time but my favorites were Strangers (about guests at a motel who saw a UFO and were brainwashed to forget) and watchers(about a dog with supernatural powers the gov. had done tests on and had escaped and was being hunted by them).
About your scrapbooks: January doesn’t seem very long as a goal…I have been working on mine for over a year, yet 3 weeks go by without any progress at all.
Have a blessed week,

Love those apples! As far as Jayden’s small hands go; it is amazing what any of us can do when driven by motivation and perseverance. Great to read how you appreciate the blessings in your life. In life it is so easy to focus on what we don’t have or what we would like to see change. Can’t help but be reminded of 1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” We can experience contentment when we strive to live with less rather than desiring more; being able to give away out of our abundance rather than accumulating more; being able to relish what we have rather than resenting what we are missing. Ultimately our money and possessions all pass away and we can’t take any of it with us when we die. Each day is a gift when we wake up with our health in tact, surrounded by family who love and care for us. We can truly say we are RICH!
