Weekly Wrap-Up ~ Swimming and Gymnastics
Monday: Our kids usually enjoy science and history/geography the most because they are the most hands on. This week was no exception in our science studies. We are starting out this year with the solar system. This week was all about phases of the moon. The kids LOVED this one which is called Tasty Phases of the Moon. They used Oreo cookie filling to represent the different phases of the moon. Then of course, they ate some!
Tuesday: Tuesday night brings swimming lessons, and has since Chloe was 4. Our Community Education program has always run their Red Cross swimming on Tuesday nights and Saturdays. Jayden is in level 4 and will be passing it this time around. This is Ava’s first session and she is a Pre-Swimmer. I had to bribe her with a Pillow Pet to ensure she would give swimming lessons a try. She does not love putting her head under water. When she was a baby she would stop breathing if she got even a small splash of water on her face while in the pool!
Wednesday: Story time with Mr. Mike brought about an old favorite, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl. I say old favorite because it is very well known and popular book, but none of my children ever really took to it. They did enjoy other books that were illustrated by him such as Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do you See?, and Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear?. Both were written by Bill Martin Jr. and illustrated by Eric Carle.
Thursday: Veteran’s Day had all the local schools off for the day, which gave our gym the opportunity to have team pictures and our annual practice meet. That meant no official school work in our house because Chloe and I had to be at the gym for most of the day. At the end of the day Chloe was disappointed with her performance on the bars, which overshadowed the fact that she scored solidly on the other 3 events. She scored 6.6 on bars, 8.5 on vault, 8.8 on beam, 8.15 on floor, giving her a 32.05 all around. I was very pleased with her first try and level 6. Now in a week they have the first actual competition.
Friday: Today brought too much time trying to get my photos in proper orientation here on my new blog. We also had a nice play date and made Vegan Chocolate Krinkle cookies.
