Monday: Today was the first of 7 science classes that Jayden will be attending at the RMSC. I was surprised how many children were there to participate. The first class topic was Discovering Weather. The classroom was broken down into 3 different stations (mini-experiments) for the kids to rotate through.  Jayden and Chloe both thought it was cool that 2 of the 3 experiments we had already done this year at home while we were studying weather!

Tuesday: Today become our primary work day for the week. Chloe had double duty to do because she fell ill with a touch of “the flu” yesterday and thus was not up to doing anything. We very much enjoyed our afternoon of exploring rocks and minerals. There is a great site called This Old Earth that we used to go over the process of how to identify different rocks & minerals.  I told the kids not to focus on getting the “right” identification for their rock or mineral, but on the process of how to go about it.  The pictures are each of their findings for Luster, Hardness, and Cleavage which helped them to narrow down their identification of the rock or mineral they were looking at.  They enjoyed learning about the Mohs Scale of Hardness and where everyday things might fall on the scale.

I also just received How To Bo God’s Little Princess by Sheila Walsh, because I was accepted as part of the blog tour to promote the book. Sheila Walsh is the creator of the award-winning Gigi, God’s Little Princess brand which has sold over 1.5 million units. This is my first blog tour and I am excited to be a part of it! Look for my review post after April 11th (that is when the tour starts and I don’t know yet what date will be mine) as a part of the tour! I will also be doing a giveaway of the book along with my review. Plus I am including a special review of the book from my 11 year old daughter in my review post! She read the book in a short amount of time on Monday while she was in bed not feeling well. I myself am anxious to see what she has to say for her first official review of a book!

Wednesday: Another day of storytime and Mall lunch with Poppy and Gommy.  Unfortunately this week I don’t remember the book Mr. Mike read.  I know it was about spring, baby birds and a nest.  Ava colored the coloring sheet at home and told me, “These are the colors they were in the book Mr. Mike read.”

Thursday: This was our last day of Homeschool Ice Skating for this season.  We will miss the connections and social time I think even more than the actual skating.  As the weather gets nicer we may just have to join in on park days this year.  After ice skating we had a tour of a local recycling facility with Ava’s Daisy Girl Scout Troop.  It was an extremely interesting tour.  The amount of recycling that they do just boggled my mind!  The kids really liked learning about what the things like the plastic, and glass bottles were turned into.  For instance the bottom of carpeting, and even clothing can be made from the plastic bottles, and the glass bottles can even be turned into car window glass.

Each one of these bails of shredded paper weighed 2100lbs!
