About My Foolish Heart:
Unknown to her tiny town of Deep Haven, Isadora Presley spends her nights as Miss Foolish Heart, the star host of a syndicated talk radio show. Millions tune in to hear her advice on dating and falling in love, unaware that she’s never really done either. Issy’s ratings soar when it seems she’s falling in love on-air with a caller. A caller she doesn’t realize lives right next door.
Caleb Knight served a tour of duty in Iraq and paid a steep price. The last thing he wants is pity, so he hides his disability and moves to Deep Haven to land his dream job as the high school football coach. When his beautiful neighbor catches his eye, in a moment of desperation he seeks advice from My Foolish Heart, the show that airs before his favorite sports broadcast.
Before he knows it, Caleb finds himself drawn to the host—and more confused than ever. Is his perfect love the woman on the radio . . . or the one next door?

Brief Character List:
Isadora Presley – Issy – radio host of My Foolish Heart (dad was the high school football coach – her parents got hit by a semi, mom dies, dad is a quadriplegic who can’t breathe on his own)
Caleb Knight – (spent 2 years in the National Guard serving in Iraq) neighbor to Issy, hired to teach psychology and social studies at the new high school as well as competing to be the new football coach
Lucy MaGuire – Issy closest friend since the first grade, owns the local donut shop called World’s Best Donuts
Seb Brewster – former high school quarterback, (Lucy’s high school love) hired to be a math aide at the high school and is competing against Caleb to be the high school football coach
Favorite Quotes:
“It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get back up,” Caleb said quoting Vince Lombardi, the Green Bay Packers’ legendary coach.
“Life is football. It’s pushing ahead, and maybe you make yardage or maybe you don’t, but you get knocked down all the same. And right then, you have the choice to stay down or get back up. If you have enough people cheering for you, and enough heart, you push to your feet and get back in the huddle and go another round. Life is football.”
My Thoughts:
This book had me from the cover! There was something inviting about the small town cafe look that made me want to read it. Susan May Warren did not disappoint me! Issy was both endearing and unbelievable (or should I say hard to imagine). My mind kept saying, “How can she live trapped in her house, cowering under the piano in fear?” This Christian Romance lived up to it’s name. Sometimes corny in nature, but so sweet and quirky too. I could feel Lucy’s agony over mistakes made in high school with her then love, Seb. Each character was struggling to live up to a perceived standard, and failing in some way. From Caleb struggling to be seen as more than an injured war vet, to Seb wanting to be more than the star high school quarterback who went nowhere, to Lucy who woke at ungodly hours every morning struggling to keep her family’s donut shop in business, and of course, house bound Issy trying to get her life back. There were no major surprises in the path their lives took, but I found myself satisfied in the end with an uplifting feeling of following their journeys and seeing them come out the other side more whole and intact than they had begun.
My Foolish Heart was a page turner that kept me engaged from start to finish. In fact, I read it cover to cover in two sittings because I just wanted to see how things were going to play out. If you are looking for an engaging, light read, this would be a great option. I plan on picking up the other three books in the Deep Haven series now that I have read, and was so enthralled with this one.
