While it was a long time ago, when my youngest was preK age, one of the things that saved me was ABCmouse. I had two older children to homeschool and she was an active toddler who needed attention and stimulation. To say I loved ABCmouse would be an understatement, it was a life saver for when I needed a little time to work with the other two. I knew it was a safe space for her to be in online, it was fun for her, AND it was educational. Win! Win! Win! So when I saw that the makers of ABCmouse are rolling out a full online homeschool curriculum for ages 4-8 I was really excited to see what amazing things they would come up with! And they did not disappoint!
Homeschool+ Online Learning Curriculum for PreK-2nd Grade Learners
Homeschool+ is an online learning curriculum for PreK-2nd grade from the makers of ABCmouse. My grandson and I have been poking around and enjoying our time using and exploring all the features Homeschool+ has to offer. Let me show you what there is to love about this online learning curriculum!
1. Adaptive Math and Reading Program
Both the math and reading programs are truly adaptive. Your child will begin each one with a series of exercises disguised as games to allow the program to assess their learning level. Then the lessons will begin and proceed according to your child’s unique learning needs.
The Homeschool+ math program covers beginner math through 4 years of learning (equivalent to PreK-2nd grade). The program begins at the beginning, starting with number recognition to 10, and then works up from there. My grandson went through numbers to 20, the 100 chart, putting numbers in number order, basic addition and subtraction and more.
The Homeschool+ reading program is designed to take a beginner reader to full comprehension. I was really impressed with the My Reading Academy! There is extensive focus on reading basics like letter sounds, syllables, word families. It’s something I have seen my grandson struggle with so I was exited for him to have this focus time on these concepts. Then it goes on to things like sight words and reading along with reading comprehension. I found that my kids often read at an early age, but the comprehension wasn’t always at the same level so I’m happy they include that as a regular part of this program.
2. 10 Arts, Sciences, and General Studies Courses
- Grammar and Writing
- Animals and Habitats I & II
- Think Like a Scientist
- Systems of the Human Body
- Science Experiments and Demonstrations
- Community Citizenship I & II

Each of these courses consists of 12-20 lessons and every one comes with an offline lesson plan.
These offline lesson plans are hands-on and interactive. It’s a chance to take the learning off the computer and put it back in the hands of your child. There are art projects, games, creating hands-on learning tools, and so much more! The image above shows examples of the offline lesson plans Homeschool+ pairs with these courses.
3. Freeplay Activities
The main courses are available to schedule Monday through Friday, but beyond that there are always Freeplay Activities available. And boy are there a ton of activities to do! Not only are they all fun, but your kids will still be learning too!
- Books – Your kids can have them read to them or choose to read them themselves. There are kids classics, science books, fun stories and more!
- Games – There are tons of letter/alphabet games, mazes, fun racing games, and more!
- Art Activities – The art activities consist of online activities like do-to-dots, paint by number or sight word, and free painting.
- Puzzles – Animals, shapes, letters and more. Pick a puzzle and adjust the level of difficulty to suit your child’s needs!
- Videos – There are Make It! videos (craft tutorials), short Fast Fact videos about animals, Move It dance party videos and more!
4. Daily Lesson Plans Made Easy
On top of the extensive amount of curriculum, Homeschool+ provides an easy way to lesson plan.
You start by choosing which days you would like your child to have lessons in each subject. For instance, you might want to have Fridays off, so you don’t turn that day on. Then you may want to do Reading and Math Monday-Thursday, but Spanish only once a week. You set all these preferences and then Homeschool+ creates the lesson plans for you! Then, each day when your child logs in, the program will take them through the activities for that day.
