Homeschool Sentence Diagramming Practice
I honestly do not remember doing sentence diagramming as a kid in school. When I saw it in my kid’s homeschool curriculum it was completely new to me. After spending years doing it with my children, one of the things I love most about sentence diagramming is that it pulls so many grammar skills and knowledge into one place. When sentence diagramming you are demonstrating your knowledge of logical connections between parts of a sentence by breaking it down into it’s smaller parts.
Here in NYS our Homeschool Regulations require us to test during certain school years. When it comes to our homeschool testing I feel very strongly that my children’s solid base in sentence diagramming has helped them immensely on the English portions of their exams.
That being said, my youngest seems to struggle with the diagramming and I was looking for an easy way to get her some more practice with it. I was thrilled to find Learn with Diagrams.

Homeschool Sentence Diagramming Practice
Learn with Diagrams is an online grammar tool that teaches kids sentence diagramming along with the basic grammar rules. The program is geared towards grades 5 & up and can be easily integrated in with whatever curricula you are currently using.
My kids did all their sentence diagramming on their computers using Google Chrome, but you can also use it on an iDevice. Since it uses Adobe Flash you will need to download Puffin first (this browser has Adobe Flash within it).
Sentence Diagramming Using Learn With Diagrams
Online – That means no workbook, no printing. Just sign in and go!
Instruction as You Go – At each level in the program there is a short video lesson that goes over a group of grammatical concepts. This gives the student the knowledge they need to work with the next set of sentence diagramming practice questions.
Building Blocks – Each section begins at a base level and then works up to more complex sentences as the student demonstrates their understanding.
Guided Examples & Tips – Along the way students not only get guided examples to start each section, but at the bottom of the screen their a tips to help them remember the grammar concepts and how they apply to sentence diagramming.
Effective for Multiple Levels – While all students start at the beginning, the course adapts to the student. My 5th grade daughter is moving more slowly through the course than my son. For her she is given simpler questions and more of them. For him, he gets what is called a “Hot Streak Bonus”. The more he gets right, the less of each type of question he has to do, moving him through the program more quickly so he doesn’t get bored over doing concepts he has already mastered.
Affordable – The Learn With Diagrams course is only $19! This gets you access to all the content for an entire year! (Also see below for a discount code that will make it just $9!)
