Homeschooling Algebra With Mr. D Math
Math is often a topic of interest among homeschoolers, especially as you get into homeschooling Algebra and beyond. If you are like me, you haven’t done the math since high school and that can make it tough to teach it.
Since upper level math is long in my past, I knew I didn’t want to have to relearn it to teach it to my children. Often people worry about upper level math for this reason. The good news is that you don’t have to teach it!
“You don’t have to teach upper level math to your homeschooler.”
Instead of purchasing a book or curriculum that required me to be the guide or teacher, I chose to look for options that would be the teacher for me! I am so pleased to say that I found Mr. D Math.

Homeschooling Algebra With Mr. D Math
My son is in 7th grade and was currently using a Pre-Algebra course when we started with Mr. D. While the program we were using has always worked for our oldest daughter, we have seen signs of it not being enough accountability for our son.
The live class with Mr. D was a pleasant surprise! Mr. D is engaging and interactive with the students. While he can see what they write, the other students cannot. This anonymity makes it nice for kids who are nervous about asking questions or feeling singled out because they don’t know something. Having an actual live teacher to be accountable to and to be able to ask questions of was game changing for my son! He looks forward to being in class with Mr. D each week.
The other major difference is one my son noted himself. He said that Mr. D explained many of the concepts in a much easier and more concise manner. He felt the methods he was learning with Mr. D were more manageable than the previous curriculum he was using.
He liked it so much that he didn’t want to miss the live session so when we had to be out one day he participated in the car! (Thus the photo above.)
While my son is taking Pre-Algebra, Mr. D Math also offers Algebra I and Algebra II.
{My senior aged daughter also popped her head into a Pre-Calculus class to check it out for herself. She has always been a video based learner. She really liked having the opportunity to ask questions right when something was tricky for her. She didn’t have to wait, or try to figure it out for herself, or go back through a video again. This was a big bonus of having an instructor right there for her to interact with.}

Trying to choose an algebra 1 program for my eldest child. Mr D, BJU, CTC. What will work best for a child with some working memory issues?

As I have no personal experience with working memory issues, I’m not sure I can say. One of the bonuses of Mr. D is the live interactions, and I would probably chose that or CTC over BJU.
