Learn German With Rosetta Stone Homeschool
Are you looking for a language program to use in your homeschool? Do you want one that incorporates reading, writing, and speaking? How about one that works well even if you have no native speakers in your house? I have the program that may just be right for you!
I was born to a father who was born and raised in Germany. During our school aged years my siblings and I took German in school out of respect for my father and to better understand the cultural and language which we called our heritage. Now my parents live in our house and my children are always hounding my dad for German vocabulary. As this was going on a light bulb went off in my head! Wouldn’t it be great if my children could learn German and be able to speak with my father in his native tongue?
Great idea right? One glitch (or maybe two). I may have taken German in high school but it didn’t really stick so I won’t be much help, and since my dad isn’t very comfortable with teaching the kids, that means I needed a program to help us out. In walks Rosetta Stone Homeschool. {Disclosure: I received this product for free and was compensated for my time in writing this review. Features We Love
Rosetta Stone Homeschool offers many features of the regular version as well as some added things that are super helpful for homeschool families. The longer we use the program, the more we love it! Here are some of the many reasons why:
1. Can be used with multiple learners – You can set up multiple, independent profiles for your students. Choose what is best for them and have them learning in their own profile at their own pace.
2. Singular cost – Instead of having to pay for multiple students and multiple classes, you purchase one level and each student can learn at their own pace and until they are done. (Even if it takes more than a semester or two!)
3. Self-paced Lessons – As I just mentioned, Rosetta Stone Homeschool is self paced. Every student can work through the lessons at a pace that works for them.
4. Quizzes and tests are included – With Rosetta Stone Homeschool you get a supplemental CD included. On the CD there are PDF files for quizzes and tests, as well as the answer key for both. While the entirety of the quizzes and tests are in German (or whatever language you choose), in the English Speaking Guide that is included, you also get a side-by-side view of what the student has on their quiz or test and what it means in English. So you don’t have to worry about not knowing the language yourself! And hey, you might just learn something too!
5. Language Immersion – Every lesson is fully in German. There are little speaker boxes to click to hear pronunciations, corresponding photos, and the written word. Your student will be fully immersed in the language at all times! Even by the end of the first lesson your student is exposed to common, simple phrases. One of the components in the lessons is a conversation section. I love this because even if the student doesn’t have a physical person at home to converse with, there are built in conversations for practice in the lessons.
6. Curriculum Plans Provided – In the Parent’s Guide there are two different curriculum plans if you would like some sort of framework to follow to help keep you and the kids on track. Both a 45 week and a 36 week plan are included and broken down into blocks.
7. Track Student Progress – Tracking progress is easy with the student progress screen. You can easily see how far along they are, their grades for each lesson, and what days they were completed on.
8. This is a personal bonus but I wanted to share anyways. Having my son doing Rosetta Stone Homeschool German has brought he and my dad closer together. My dad stands behind him during some of his lessons and pronounces things for him! It is his own personal “speaker button”. Using Rosetta Stone Homeschool German has given them a way to connect by offering an outlet for my dad to feel comfortable in a learning setting with my son. This my friends, is priceless.
Please excuse the mess (and possible noises) as our house in under construction, but I wanted to share a short video clip of my son and dad interacting together with Rosetta Stone Homeschool (as my dad spirals more with Alzheimer’s he reverts more and more back to his days in Germany and this is an amazing way for my son to meet him there).
