Weekly Wrap-Up ~ Week 7: Christopher Columbus & Play Dough
Monday: In stark contrast to last weeks time at home, this week we have been very busy; both at home, as well as running around outside of the house. Today we headed out to the RMSC to see the September 11th exhibit that they have right now. The RMSC is the first in the nation to host this exhibit. Chloe was 3 days past her second birthday when this tragedy occurred. With all the exposure given the 10th anniversary this year, as well as her being old enough, we spent time teaching her about what happened that day. On the 10th anniversary she sat up and watched the events unfold just as they had that day. It was emotional for her, as well as us. She is the only one we took into this exhibit. I have another post coming about this exhibit and some related thoughts/material etc.
Tuesday: Today we were able to be home to get some things done. In lieu of Chloe being Gene Simmons for Halloween, she was really pushing to make at least something from his elaborate costume. So we dug out some black fabric and created his “webbed wings”. In the photo below she is wearing a paper mask. For Halloween I will be painting her face and coloring her hair black. The “webbed wings” have since been embellished with a studded look using silver glittered fabric paint.
Wednesday: We are spending the next 2 weeks learning about Christopher Columbus. I never realized that all the time he was exploring, he stilled believed he was exploring in the Indies and not the exact opposite direction where he actually was. The kids created maps of their own “New World”.
Thursday: We made Periodic Play Dough that was edible as well as sculptable. The kids had to create on element out of it. Using it’s symbol as well as creating one atom with protons, neutrons and electrons.
Friday: Jayden had his Weekly Chess Club today. My dad has been taking him so I have time at home. But this week we girls (my mom, Chloe, Ava and I) headed out to do a little shopping at the mall. New sneakers for me, much needed pants for Ava, and even a new outfit for Chloe.

Can;t wait to see the costume completed. We will definetly be using the play doh idea when we work on the periodic table. Very creative! Thank you for sharing.
