The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ June 15th, 2010
FOR TODAY:
June 15th, 2010…
Outside my window…our street is very quiet. The buses have not yet come for the neighborhood kids to go to school and the cars carrying the adults to work have long since left.
I am thinking…that recently I have become very comfortable in my own skin. I have never taken too much stock in what people say about me as I try to let it roll and just be me. (That isn’t to say that I don’t feel hurt, or question myself and my actions to see if maybe I have been at fault for something.) We all have strengths and weaknesses, we all have things we like and don’t like about people and vice versa, we all do/choose our own path in life. I often wonder why so many have to put others down, or judge their way of thinking/doing. I have never felt my way was the only way, but have felt so often that people treat me as though they feel my way is wrong because it is not theirs. Just because I would not do something I see another person choosing for their life, does not mean that what they have chosen is wrong. It is merely a different path than I am on, it was right for them, but not for me. I feel as though we all see the world, act upon things, and speak in a manner that is true to our path, the path WE PERSONALLY have traveled and continue to travel on, and that is how it is for us. That may not be the same for others and that should be more accepted than what it is. Why do we have to be carbon copies? Why does one religion, or way to education have to be the only right way? Don’t people of many religions thrive all over the world? Don’t people from private, public, and various forms of homeschooling thrive in the world? Who are we to say which is “right” and which is “wrong”? We are all individuals with different personalities, needs, life circumstances etc, therefore what works for one, may not work for another. Thus the reason for soooo many choices out there, whether it be churches, schools, grocery stores, magazines, cars, clothing stores etc.
I am thankful for…some really great people that have come into Chloe’s life at the gym. In coaches, parents, and fellow gymnasts. You always take the bad with the good, and today I am thankful for the so many good people she has benefited from at gymnastics.
From the learning rooms…we are setting out on a mini adventure this summer. Our city is doing a community arts project in which local artists and businesses created and sponsored, a “parade of benches“. Throughout Rochester there are 117 benches to be found, take pictures of, sit on, etc. We are going to bust out a notebook, our cameras and our maps and see how many we can find!
From the kitchen…I am hoping that I have everything I need to make dinner. Yesterday I thawed 2lbs of meat only to find out I forgot to buy the seasoning packets to make the meatloaf!
I am wearing…pj’s, of course! When I am I ever dressed this early in the morning?
I am creating…actually, we are finally done creating our 5″ x 5′ Lap Blanket project . We are now looking forward to going to the Monroe County Fair to see if we can find where they are all being displayed. Even if they are not laid out to easily see, it will be neat to know that we contributed to this project!
I am going…to a friend’s house today. We are looking forward to some sun, a little slip and slide maybe, some bouncing on the trampoline, and a nice afternoon to relax and chat with our friends.
I am reading…I am not currently reading a novel, although I have I few in mind that I want to start. One of which is The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell. I would also like to read, along with Chloe, Little Women, and The Secret Garden. Although, my first priority right now is reading The Core: Teaching Your Child the Foundations of Classical Education. It is a review copy that I received from the publisher. Look for my review of it in a couple of weeks.
I am hoping…to soon have all my homeschool paper work done both for the end of this year and the beginning of the coming year. I have such a feeling of relief when I have sent in my IHIP for the following year before summer really begins. This way there are no worries about scrambling to get paperwork in over the summer!
I am hearing… nothing. I seem to be too tied up in my own thoughts to hear much else. Other than that constant ringing in my ear that never goes away!
Quote for this week... When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.
Around the house… I am finding it hard to wind down for the year. Clearing away the finished work and preparing for the next is not only a physical task, but an emotional one as well. My babies are growing and I see it in the shift of “stuff” around the house.
One of my favorite things… a photo that comes out just the way you envisioned it!
A few plans for the rest of the week: this is another busy week, my mom is preparing for garage sale on Friday that Chloe has been pushing for and will be helping with, the two little ones have check ups at the pediatrician on Wed, Walk n Talk, of course :), Friday’s adult book discussion on my favorite book right now….13 Reasons Why, along with school work, and the usual taxi service.
Here is the picture for thought I am sharing…

I have read this three times…your insight (as always!) is fabulous! You have managed to provide more wisdom to me than you probably realize. Thank you, my friend!
P.S. – the lap blanket looks fabulous!! How pretty! Also, the benches on parade idea is awesome! I tried to do that (by myself) with the horses on parade thing that Rochester did YEARS ago and it was fun…Can’t wait to hear all about it!!

I am looking forward to checking out the benches with the kids. We are putting together the beginnings of our scrapbook for the project today. As far as wisdom, I am glad you approve. I was musing over something I said and what my intent or lack there of was, and how someone else may feel and why. Story to follow at our Walk n Talk!
