Online Dance Classes for Kids with YouDance.com
YouDance.com is a subscription based site that offers online dance classes for kids (and adults too!). They offer lessons for absolute beginners and advanced choreography for those dancers that want a little extra. There are classes in ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and even clogging! It’s like having a dance studio and instructor right in your living room! For just $25/month or discounted at $180/year it is a low cost option not only for dance instruction, but as a fitness/exercise option for the whole family! {Note: the free trial is automatically applied to all who sign up.}
YouDance.com is a safe place for kids to learn dance. No ads, no way to click into something you don’t want your kids having access to (unlike YouTube). There are short quizzes (like 3-4 questions based on the lessons) and a practice center to help you and your kids to learn at your own pace. Plus YouDance points help track progress.
Online Dance Classes Offered at YouDance.com
There are 7 different classes and 5 different styles of dance offered within the Subscription to YouDance.com.
- Hip Hop – learn the history of Hip Hop as well as the many styles within it, such as; Breaking, House, and “The Basics”. You can also learn some Hip Hop Choreography in beginner, intermediate or advanced levels.
- Ballet – every step is clearly and efficiently broken down. You will be able to go through courses ranging from Beginner to Pointe! After working your way through quizzes, the practice center, and several step by step instruction videos, you’ll feel like a Ballet Pro in no time.
- Contemporary – is very self-expressive, feel free to add your own style while working through the courses. Then take on other dancers interpretations while you learn Choreography from several well-known dancers that have been on So You Think You Can Dance and World Of Dance!
- Clogging – you will become an expert in rhythm. You will learn why dancers only count to eight as well as how to find the beat. There is an entire course dedicated to helping you master the basics of Clogging!
- Jazz – You will learn Hip Isolations, Fan Kicks, Chaînés, The Charleston and more! Once you have the basics down, you can learn some Choreography and do the fun Follow-Alongs!
- Kids Dance Along – these are specifically designed for younger kids to learn and get active with the different styles of dance
- Dance For Exercise – Boost your endurance and increase your strength as YouDance.com presents a more fun and convenient way to exercise!
Our Experience with YouDance.com
I was originally intrigued with YouDance.com for my grandson who has been saying he would like to learn to dance. (He can cut it up and wiggle like crazy, but he’d like something more formal.) Since his parents both work full time and we share homeschooling duties, it can be hard to get out to a ton of things during the day (he already attends music lessons, a co-op, and goes horseback riding once a week).
Having this online dance classes option to do at home is a great way for him to learn how to dance while getting exercise, getting his energy out, and entertaining him in a positive way when the adults in his life are unavailable.
As we started to use it not only did I find it fun, but my teenage daughter came around and started dancing too! It reminds me of a fun Walk at Home program I use in that it’s easy to follow, fun, and can be done in our home for 10 minutes or 2 hours! We get to decide when we have time to hop on and dance, and for how long.
Online Dance Classes Dashboard
With the subscription to YouDance.com there is a simple to follow interface for all the classes. It tracks your progress so you can easily hop in and pick up where you left off. Not only does this make it easy to keep track of where you are, but it makes it easy to use it as a formal course in your homeschool.
From the dashboard you can:
- work through the courses – including the short quizzes
- get the warm-up video
- enter the practice center where you can earn 15 YouDance points every day for 15 minutes of practice
We are loving online dance classes with YouDance.com!
We are loving YouDance.com! Every time the kids hear the music come on they flock to the tv. Speaking of tv, as you can see in the photo above, I pulled up YouDance.com on my iPad and then used an app on our FireTV to display my iPad on the tv screen. It made it so much easier for more of us to participate, instead of having to huddle around the iPad.
