Learn Something….My dad
The phone rang at my house on the morning of February 25th. As I answered the phone I heard not only my mother, but even my father singing “Happy Birthday” to me. I commented on how surprised I was that he was singing as well. He responded by saying, “You must be pretty special for me to sing to you!”. Then he got off the phone and I continued my conversation with my mother. Shortly after that I could hear music in the background. My father had picked up another phone in the house and was playing the song Heidi. When I was younger I used to play it at a very loud volume for our dog Midnight, and he would howl like crazy. According to my mother, my dad plays the song on almost a daily basis. I have to say that a little part of me (or maybe bigger than I want to admit) was very touched to hear that. So Dad, since I know you will read this, I love you too. 😉 (Even if you only play it just because you love the whole German cd itself!)

Your father and I listened to the You Tube video clip. While the musical cartoon was good, the one draw back is that it’s sung in Dutch. We chose some others that were listed on the right of the screen and the one with Gitta and Erika is sung in German but definitely not as cute as the cartoon. Thanks for sharing!
By the way, while your father and I were dating He said he wanted a daughter and would name her Heidi. He never had a sister and there were few girls in the family tree. He wanted sons too and strongly professed that NO son of his would play baseball because soccer was THE German sport. Also, he knew nothing about baseball.
Eventually your father had to eat those words. As our family well knows Christopher loved baseball so your father took out a book on baseball in order to learn the sport. Even though Christopher was left handed your father taught him how to use it to his advantage within the sport. Your father learned to love the sport and for years along with his sons and myself followed the Yankees.
Now at age three he started teaching you Heidi how to play soccer. Secretly, though I can’t say for absolute certainty, I believe your father wanted to make sure one of his children played soccer. Because soccer was a part of your father’s heritage, he has always been proud that you played the sport and how you played. It was most definitely your choice to play or not play. When college time came I have to admit that we both missed your playing. We will forever be thankful for the incredible memories of those times.
Once again the Lord has brought to my rememberance Ecclesiastes 3:5b “…a time to embrace, and a time to refraim from embracing;” That was your time your season to not only embrace soccer, but volleyball and softball. As your parents it was our time our season to find enjoyment in all of this.
