What is Mastery Homeschool Math Curriculum?

The mastery approach, also called sequential or skills-based learning seeks to build a complete set of knowledge on a topic, and then build upon that knowledge base. Students are introduced to each specific topic one at a time. Then they learn about the new concept in many different ways. With the mastery approach the student must fully understand a concept before moving on.

Everything You Want to Know About CTCMath (And why I Love it)
- CTCMath is taught via video lessons. They are step-by-step tutorials that make it easy for kids to understand. They are also kept short as not to overwhelm! Especially in math I have found that less is more. If you can tackle math conceptions in small chunks your kids are more likely to understand and retain the information.
- Automated Grading. Particularly in the younger grades the questions are presented online right after the short lesson. Each question produces a green check mark if they got it correct, or a red X if incorrect. You can set in their profile how many tries you want to give them before it shows the answer. I LOVE this instant feedback. AND so does my grandson! There is a mastery bar at the top with different colored stars to earn on your way to mastery and he is hooked by trying to get all the stars! (See image below of sample question) I think it is especially helpful for young learners to see the results of each question as they do it. Otherwise they could possibly do a whole bunch of questions incorrectly causing a whole lot of frustration.
- Extensive Tracking and Reporting. There is a parent portal where you set up a profile for each student and then can see everything they are doing. From how many times they log-in, to their overall scores, as well as tiny details for each lesson they have completed. This has been so helpful to be able to easily see where they are at as well as to pinpoint where they are struggling. I also like that you are given profile options for each student (see photo above).
- CTCMath is mobile! It is compatible with various devices, including tablets and smart phones. This has made it easy for us to complete math on the go! As a homeschooler with multiple children we are often on the go to some activity or another. The thing is it is usually for one child, not all. Being able to easily take CTCMath on the go means that the kids can complete their studies in the car, making more efficient use of our time!
