Simple Woman’s Daybook

Tuesday March 15th, 2011…

Outside my window…the sun is shining! Last night it was still daylight here at 6:45pm due to the Daylight Savings Time switch this past weekend. At 42 degrees I was able to get out and walk the neighborhood. How how sweet it is to start seeing the signs of Spring outside.

I am thinking…about entering to win a book called Organized Simplicity over at Boasting In My Weakness, because who couldn’t use a little more organization in their lives!

I am thankful for…the “mild” weather we have here. In the face of so much destruction in Japan from the earthquake and tsunami, we have to stop and be grateful for the lack of extreme weather here in NY. As sick as most of us are of the winter weather, I think we would take it, to the natural disasters in Japan any day.

From the kitchen…this week is the first week in awhile we are sort of winging it for meals. Yesterday we had a very enjoyable dinner of pork tenderloin and various dipping sauces. The kids noted it was like fondue night, without having to cook the meat themselves in the fondue pot! Tonight we are having soup night with homemade biscuits.

I am creating…so many things as usual. Instead of knitting, I am crocheting squares for our Lap Blanket Project this year. It was good motivation to learn how to crochet. I have learned to chain, single, 1/2 double and double crochet. My biggest problem is keeping the squares a consistent size!

I am going…to be sending in our tests this week. We tested a little later than usual this year. I usually have Chloe take her test in January but this year we did them over the past two days. I had no intention of testing Jayden but when he heard me telling Chloe that testing time was coming up, he wanted one as well. So I ordered the CAT-E from Seton Testing for 2nd and 6th grade. Now that we have completed that task, we breathe a collective sigh of relief and go back to life as usual.

I am reading… The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Then I am on to one of the many books I have in my que, like: There’s No Place Like Here by Cecelia Ahern, The Things That Keep us Here by Carla Buckley, The DMZ by Jeanette Windle and Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner

I am hoping…to kick it up in the reading department. I feel as though I have been catching up in many areas of my life and I am feeling good about it! I have many pages left to catch up on to finish The Happiness Project by Friday for my adult book discussion, and my hope is to accomplish that goal!

I am hearing…Mary Had a Little Lamb being played by Ava on her keyboard. She is so proud that she can play it there because it does not have letters on the keys for her to follow.

Around the house…Most things are in order for once. We actually managed to get our winter house scenes down this weekend. It is only March after all!

A few plans for the rest of the week:Walk n Talk with Shana tonight, Storytime and lunch with Poppy and Gommy, Adult book club, Mother Daughter book club, multiple birthday parties and a gymnastics competition as well as swimming lessons, soccer practice, ice skating, Daisy Girl Scout meeting and the usual Mom’s Taxi Service!
