The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ July 13th, 2010
FOR TODAY:
July 13th, 2010…
Outside my window…it is a little cloudier today than it has been. Although for Rochester, the weather has been amazing! I have been enjoying the high 80s low 90s weather!
I am thinking…about how much I want to dive in to a Photoshop class. It figures that I feel more motivated when I have been unable to find one to take. I am sure once I find one and sign up that I will be totally dreading it! The grass is always greener I guess.
I am thankful for…the chance to have straight teeth. I had another orthodontist appointment today to have my braces adjusted. Braces as an adult are no fun, but as an adult I can totally appreciate what they are doing for me. I look forward to having straight, white teeth.
From the learning rooms…we have been relaxing for the past couple of weeks during this “summertime” period. Life is filled with swimming lessons, Safety Town, summer parties etc. Today we are sitting down to some formal work and we plan on trying to keep up with some of it. Chloe reminded us in loud sobbing tones how hard it can be to get back in the swing of things so we are better off doing a little everyday to keep our feet wet and not lose any ground that we have covered.
From the kitchen…our kitchen has been a place of angst recently. First we had to defrost the refrigerator in the garage. Then we came home from a long weekend of various gatherings and parties this weekend to find every thawed in our kitchen refrigerator. I got upset and blamed Joey for leaving it ajar and messing with the ice, as last weekend we came home to moldy smelling wet carpet from his ice debacle! Turns out that the compressor stopped running so we lost hundreds of dollars in frozen foods and were looking at a ton to replace the refrigerator. Luckily for us that after pulling it out and cleaning around the compressor, fan and coils, it seems to be working again! For now! 😉
I am wearing…a sundress. It is afternoon now and I have been up and out all morning. Since losing 25lbs I have been living in sundresses this summer. I am not a “dress girl” but for some reason I am loving light weight summer dresses this summer. Maybe it is because it has been hotter than usual here, who knows! I do know that it has been a nice change for Joey, he likes to see me “girly” every now and then. Of course “girly” usually happens about once a century for me!
I am creating… a plan for the coming school year. I am still laying out my ideas for our history/geography for the year. Everything else is lined up. Now I just have to get to printing and organizing all the notebooks and things.
I am going…to sign Chloe up for some clay classes at the Genesee Center for the Arts this summer. It is the one thing she has wanted to do that has actually fit into our summer schedule. She could not do the horseback riding or the swimming lessons so I am glad to have found one thing, outside of the gym that she can participate in this summer.
I am reading…I am actually not sure what to read. I am in between books, but have a list a mile long of ones I would like to read. I have Little Girls in Pretty Boxes on my night stand so I might start that. I also have a couple of books on my iPad that I want to read plus a few on my list I don’t have yet.
I am hoping…that Ava will manage better at Safety Town today. Yesterday she broke down into heavy sobs multiple times at the beginning. When I came back to get her she was hand in hand with one of the counselors walking through the lobby sobbing. Turns out she had peed her pants! She has been potty trained for 2 years and NEVER done that. She did not want to ask to go potty. We are thinking that today HAS to go better than yesterday did!
I am hearing…thunder and seeing lightening. We are getting a much needed rain here. Hopefully it will come and go and be nice again tomorrow.
Quote to ponder…A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.
One of my favorite things…chocolate. Something I don’t get as much of since I have switched to a healthier, lower calorie diet. I do enjoy my Nutella on toast for breakfast and sometimes a Sugar Free Fat Free Chocolate pudding with cool whip. I am happier at this lower weight and would like to lose some more if I can, so the sacrifice is worth it!
A few plans for the rest of the week: Jayden has swimming lessons all week, Ava has Safety Town, Chloe has gymnastics, I will get 5 minutes of peace on Wednesday night for Walk n Talk, then Adult Book Discussion on Friday evening.
Here is the picture for thought I am sharing…
This past week we found a 90 degree day with rain, but not thunder or lightening. The kids had a blast jumping on the trampoline and playing with the umbrellas. It was one of those nostalgic summer afternoons.

I, thoroughly, enjoyed your daybook…it was like a little glimpse into your world…Congratulations on losing 25 pounds…I, so need to do that…I was supposed to lose some and walk more to keep from taking High Cholesterol medicine before my next dr appointment in September-(I’ve been borderline for years). I started walking again on Saturday, hopefully I can keep it up. There is really no excuse as I have a wonderful treadmill…
I looked at your review for the book ‘the girls’. It sounded interesting so I’m glad you told us you didn’t really like it…sorry about the refrigerator…I was going to ask if you did a insurance claim but since you got it running again, I’m not sure it would be covered.
I hope you’re having a great week.

Thank you Mama Bear. Losing the weight is a long process for me, but I have to say that I don’t crave the foods I used to. The hardest part is always the long term of keeping the weight off and I think I might just have made a step in the right direction with a more permanent shift in my eating habits! One can hope anyways! 🙂
