The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ June 8th, 2010
FOR TODAY:
June 8th, 2010…
Outside my window…the sun is shining with the promise of a new day. So many things to think about and decisions to be made.
I am thinking…about all the words to positive songs that I can think of. The one ringing in my head right now is:
Whatcha gonna do when the show is over?
Whatcha gonna sing when the song ends, yeah?
How you gonna cope when there is no closure?
Where you gonna reach when the goal gets higher?
How you gonna make it through when you think you lost your chance?
Play on when you’re losing the game
Play on ’cause you’re gonna make mistakes
It’s always worth the sacrifice
Even when you think you’re wrong
So play on, play on
Even when the floodgates swing wide open
Never let current take you down, no
Even when you’re not sure where you’re going
Swimming through a mess and you can’t get out
Just going through the motions and trying not to drown
Play on when you’re losing the game
Play on ’cause you’re gonna make mistakes
It’s always worth the sacrifice
Even when you think you’re wrong
So play on, play on
Even through a storm on the darkest night
Don’t you ever give up the fight
Even when you feel you’re all alone
Play on, play on
Play on when you’re losing the game
Play on ’cause you’re gonna make mistakes
It’s always worth the sacrifice
Even when you think you’re wrong
So play on, play on
It is one of the things I tell Chloe before she gets out of the car to go into the gym. Along with “Fight the Fear”, TPOPT which stands for The Power of Positive Thinking, “Your best is always good enough”, oh and “I love you”!
I am thankful for…this new found contentment I have found in my own skin. Whatever it is and for however long it lasts, I will be grateful for it. (Maybe I have a brain tumor or something that is making my brain wacky!)
From the learning rooms… we are continuing with our Bird Watching. We finally lured the gold finches from our neighbors! We are also learning about Penguins because the kids want to adopt a penguin at our local zoo.
From the kitchen…NOTHING! We are off to Shana and Dave’s tonight even though Joey is worried it might be too much for them in the midst of packing to move. It looks like the weather should be nice so we can play outside though!
I am creating… now that the 5″ x 5″ Lap Blanket project is done, I started knitting again for Chloe. She really wants to make a blanket for herself. Stitching the squares together on Thursday with all of her friends was so much fun. When she wrapped the stitched blanket around her she just loved it! The one we are going to make for her will be bigger though. I started knitting a square that is 8″x8″ and I think we will still use a 6 square x 8 square pattern. That will make a blanket 48″ x 64″.
I am going… to Shana and Dave’s for dinner tonight. Looking forward to some “family” interaction time.
I am reading… 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I am looking to be done with it this week for two reasons:
1. the book discussion date for the book is rapidly approaching
2. this past week I was contacted by Palgrave MacMillan which is an academic publisher. One of their Associate Marketing Directors has asked me to review an advanced copy of a book called The Core: Teaching Your Child the Foundations of Classical Education by Leigh A Bortins. So I get a preview copy, I read it, then I blog about it! I am very excited about the opportunity and I hope to get more like it in the future.
I am hoping…to make a decision about sending Ava to preschool in the fall or not. I am very on the fence and weighing all my reasons to send her, and not to send her. Either way I know will work out to be fine in the end, but I want to be happy with my decision.
I am hearing…the fan humming a continuum of white noise to help lull my thoughts.
Around the house…evidence of summer and the end of the school year can be seen. The garden is planted, the flip flops are lined up as the most prominent footwear, the bookshelf is slowly looking organized as I put away things from this year in an effort to make room for me to start building next years round of books and folders.
One of my favorite things…the smile on my children’s faces when I choose to have a “yes” kind of day. It is pretty amazing to see them light up when you stop saying “no”, for even just a little while.
A few plans for the rest of the week: Shana and Dave’s, Walk n Talk, a little less taxi service now that pre-school is done for Ava. I want to go see Sex and the City 2 but have not gotten up the gumption to go solo!
Here is the picture for thought I am sharing…

I know you have often reminded Chloe about the power of positive thinking. The reality in life is that we will get hurt, have disappointments. Friends and family fail us and sometimes we fail ourselves. We don’t always make good choices or set the best example. Those times are when we need to: 1. Let go forgiving ourselves and keep persevering to be the best of what God intended us to be 2. Then with the same forgiveness, grace and mercy that we desire, extend to those who have hurt us
Without using the words, it sounds like Carrie is saying have faith and keep persevering.
