The Vocal Gym for Homeschool – An online vocal course for high schoolers
In all my years of homeschooling (and I have been doing so since 2006), I have never seen a program like The Vocal Gym for Homeschool. If you have a high schooler that enjoys singing and wants to improve their skills, this is the program for you!

The Vocal Gym for Homeschool
The Vocal Gym for Homeschool is a self-paced online course for high schoolers. It contains 150+ hours of training which provides 1 full Fine Arts or Elective credit in any US state. Designed for High Schoolers who enjoy singing – ALL skill levels are welcome as the lessons adapt to the appropriate level of challenge based on students’ skill and experience (total beginner to advanced).
The Vocal Gym revolves around the 7 Dimensions of Singing:
- Flexibility
- Breathing
- Intonation
- Range
- Tone
- Articulation
- Strength
The course starts with creating a personalized vocal profile for each student. This profile is then used to tailor the exercise, lesson, activity, and quiz experiences within the course to the individual student’s strengths and weaknesses.
The Structure of the Course
Each section of The Vocal Gym for Homeschool course covers one of the 7 Dimensions of Singing mentioned above. Then there are a host of Targeting Exercises and a section on applying the 7 Dimensions of Singing.
Take a peak inside the course with the video below where you can hear part of a an exercise and see the accompanying notes.
Each lesson is taught through clear and concise videos that are delivered by one of the instructors. Along with the videos are detailed notes. I really like this approach because it speaks to both auditory and visual learners.
Throughout the course you will find quizzes, activities, and assignments. All of which are graded within the program.
I took a quiz myself (because I like to see how things work for myself, not just through my child’s eyes). Having not gone through any of the course, I scored a 7 out of 10.
As each question is presented you enter your answer, then you are prompted to check the answer, and then move on to the next question. I had to laugh when it came up with a notification that you had to score 80% or better to move on! Why did I laugh? Because 80% is the passing standard in our house. I always make my kids redo things if they don’t score at least an 80%.
Kids learn about the science and physiology behind the production of sound within the instrument. Investigating not only their voice as an instrument, but applying the concepts to other instruments as well.
Parent Involvement
Parents can choose to be hands-on (interacting with activities) or hands-off and just monitor the progress reports that are automatically generated by course. The Vocal Gym for Homeschool comes with a “Homeschool Toolbox” that contains quiz keys, additional activities, and assistance for parents to help child through the program
My Final Thoughts
I can’t say enough about how impressed I am with The Vocal Gym for Homeschool.
The program is well thought out and easy to follow. It tracks and grades everything.
But more than the flow of the program is the content! The videos are digitally of great quality as well as the content. The exercises are clear, offering modifications to make an exercise easier or more challenging.
